[Fern has twenty-four hours to be human before Usagi's magic runs its course, and while he's still shaky about being comfortable with the changes that have been made to his body he wants to make the most of it. And for someone who was a plant, that means eating food like a regular person!
The downside is that it's a bit more difficult to make a meal for himself when he's down one arm, and when he isn't particularly good at cooking to begin with. So there's a weird human-looking Fern, complete with outrageously long hair, green eyes, down his right arm, and bare feet, just taking over the whole kitchen. He's pulled out a bunch of random ingredients from the fridge and cupboards, a whole mix of stuff since he isn't totally sure what he's even making yet. Still, he's doing his best, trying to cut up some tomato with a regular knife and his stump.]
[Luz had just emerged from her room, still half asleep, her hair matted on her head. She was walking down the stairs, mostly unsuspecting, and then arrived at the kitchen].
Hey Fern. Man, what a me-
[Concentrating on Fern, her blurriness adjusted and her vision cleared. Luz's eyes widened, and then looked at all the items strewn all over the place].
Whoa! What happened to you?! And why are their ingredients everywhere?!
[At Luz's appearance Fern freezes up, stopping what he's doing. Ah, right, Fern being Fern, he didn't give any warning about his humanness to his fellow housemates aside from Varian. Good job, there.]
Oh, uh, 'sup Luz. [At least he still sounds like himself, and he tries to give her an awkward wave, but forgets he still has the knife in his hand, so he's just... waving a knife at her, yup.]
[He looks over at his hand when she says that, realizes what he's doing, and sheepishly slams the knife down onto the counter. Whoops, good job there, buddy. Luz's questions, which frankly are entirely valid ones, only has him looking more embarrassed.]
Um, nah. The city didn't do anything to me. I kind of - asked someone. Sailor Moon. [Letting go of the knife, he fidgets with his fingers, before rubbing the back of his head.] She's got this kind of magic, and I thought 'hey, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to try being Fern the Human for once.' Instead of, y'know, Finn.
[Oh boy, he isn't doing a great job explaining this.]
Sailor Moon?! No way! So she's still here? That's great! I haven't seen her in awhile!
[Then she listened to his explanation].
Ah, I get it. You're still sort of wrestling with the idea of how you're kinda human, kinda grass, and you wanted to see what it was like to be one more than the other, but as yourself rather than the human Finn. Honestly, that makes way more sense and is less of an existential crisis.
[Luz, quit harshing Ferns good but strange time with your nerd talk].
So the first thing you're figuring out is what you'd like to eat?
Yep, she's still around. [And Usagi had been very specific about only telling people this was Sailor Moon's power. It sounds like Luz doesn't know that's her identity, so he just nods.]
Hah, you got it in one. I'm kind of hoping this helps solve my, uh. Existential crisis.
[She's blunt but she's hit the nail on the head, honestly, and Fern is just glad that she understands. This is such a weird, confusing situation that it means a lot to him that she does.]
Right. I got kind of carrier away, and now I think I'm just a little lost.
I wonder if I'll get to see her again? Anyway, I'm glad that she did this for you, it's a pretty neat power!
[Luz had never forgotten that incident in the asylum (and the hit that came with it), so she was glad that if Fern got to explore this more, there would be less of a chance he fall back into that negative space where he wondered if he was just a substitute for Finn].

He scratches his head with his hand, looking around at the total mess that is the kitchen. He should really just stop and clean it all up... but if he has Luz's help, maybe he won't be a total failure at cooking something.]

[He gives her a small, awkward shrug in return, finding that after a moment he needs to tug his hand back. It's weird, it's too weird.]
Sure. Then uh, in the interest of honesty - [He holds his hand up, frowning.] - I'm not gonna lie, touching people when I have skin feels - weird, now.
