Sort of? People started labeling me as one and then it just kind of stuck. I'm not going to pretend that it's a title I ever wanted, but it's a title I have.
[He has many titles, for better or worse.]
Hm? I manipulate aether. It's in the world all around us. I've heard some people compare it to 'atoms', but aether is generally drawn towards being elementally charged. For example, when I use my red mage abilities I tend towards fire, lightning, earth, and wind aether. When I use my paladin abilities I tend towards using light-based aether, and my reaper abilities tend towards dark-aspected aether.
[Luz's eyes went pretty wide when he started to describe what he can do].
Whoa. In my world, and probably even the Boiling Isles, they would have just said you were a full-blown wizard! My glyphs can do basic elements, and for them to do more I have to actually draw out other combinations for them to actually work.
Well... I am unusually powerful and skilled compared to a lot of people in my world, but I don't know how much of that is due to my work and how much is based on... other things.
[Souls in his world can get Complicated.]
It's not really hard at all. I mean... from my viewpoint, you're moving aether yourself. From the air-based aether that fills your lungs to the water-based aether in your blood, you're as made of aether as anything else.
Yes, exactly! It's something nearly everyone can do. There's only one race I know of that can't intentionally move aether - in the form of magicks, I mean. The Garleans have some sort of inability to use it, which is why they rely so much more on technology.
But how do YOU do it? Something like breathing is involuntary with humans, so actually moving things around you is supposed to be impossible. It just sort of IS.
I see. Well... hm. For me it's something akin to meditating. It takes a little practice to develop a sense for it, but I can reach out to the area around me or the flow of aether inside of me and pull the relevant element out of it. It's a concentration thing, for the most part.
"... In what sense?" He quirks his head, a little confused. "As to how it physically works in transferring one type of aether to another, or how it moves, or... ?"
"I mean...how do you do it? I know in magical working, it's different for people here because their magic is all different too. So I guess yes, how does it move?"

How hard is it for you to do this kind of magic?

So you mean to say moving aether is something we all naturally do, except you can do it in a more refined way?
